I was forced to drop out of school because bullying – Adwoa Smart

Belinda Naa Ode Oku, also known as Adwoa Smart, a veteran Ghanaian actress, recently shared her struggles from her younger years, shedding light on the challenges she faced.

Adwoa Smart, renowned for her remarkable roles in the iconic Akan Drama TV series “Obra” and the Efie Wura television series, revealed that she made the difficult decision to drop out of school due to relentless bullying she experienced from her classmates.

During an appearance on Channel 1 TV’s entertainment and lifestyle show, UPSIDE DOWN, Adwoa Smart candidly disclosed that the constant teasing and ridicule she endured because of her diminutive stature led to her losing interest in pursuing her education.

She expressed the profound impact of the mocking she faced, stating, “I stopped going to school because my mates were laughing at me because of my size… It got so bad that I lost interest in going to school so I dropped out.”

The actress also expressed disappointment in the lack of intervention from the school authorities, emphasizing that they did not provide the protection she needed during this challenging time. “The teachers didn’t help me at all. They were supposed to protect me, but they didn’t,” she shared.

Adwoa Smart further elaborated on the constraints she faced, highlighting that as a young individual, she lacked the autonomy to make decisions independently.

Reflecting on her past, she expressed that if given the opportunity, she would have chosen to continue her education.

Despite the adversity she encountered, Adwoa Smart acknowledged the progress made in the movie industry, noting the advancements in technology that have transformed the production processes in the present day.
