The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) is poised to embark on a fresh strike next week, following the conclusion of a nearly two-month-long industrial action.
According to CETAG, the decision arises from the government’s continued failure to honour prior agreements concerning their allowances.
Dominic Owusu, a spokesperson for CETAG, expressed frustration over the situation, stating that despite assurances from the government, the promised allowances remain unpaid.
He emphasized that the upcoming strike is intended to compel meaningful dialogue and achieve a conclusive, satisfactory resolution to the members’ demands.
“The timeline that we agreed upon which the strike was called off has still not been done. Now, they promised us that by the first week of September, we would have gotten the offline data coming into the college. And then every member in the colleges of education will see where we have been placed by way of the migration and then also check our biodata. But as I speak, we don’t know why they hide the migration offline data.
“Also, they promised us that when the strike is called off, by the end of August, we are going to get the all-year-round compensation for work done in 2022. But as I speak to you right now, we have not received our money.
“They keep telling us that the money will come in their GIFMIS account, but it keeps disappointing and as I speak to you now, we have not gotten our money.
This is why we are saying that if by the end of this week, nothing is heard, we are going to have a full-blown strike,” Mr. Owusu added.
