Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, former National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has suggested that the move by key appointees of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to contest for parliamentary seats is a clear sign that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is doubtful about its chances in the upcoming 2024 General Elections.
Speaking at the campaign launch for NDC Parliamentary Candidate Bismark Tetteh Nyarko in Upper Manya Krobo, Eastern Region, Ofosu Ampofo mentioned the fact that Dr. Bawumia’s own sister, his economic affairs advisor, and his spokesperson, Dr. Gideon Boako, were all contesting for parliamentary seats.
“How do people who are walking with the Vice President and working in his office, all of a sudden, change their minds and contest as MPs?” Ofosu Ampofo questioned. “If you truly believe your presidential candidate is going to win the election, why abandon your special position to seek a parliamentary seat? This is a clear indication that even those closest to Dr. Bawumia do not have confidence in his chances of becoming President.”
He further claimed that the actions of the NPP as a party at large demonstrate an acknowledgment of the NDC’s impending victory.
“The NPP itself knows that John Dramani Mahama will win the next elections, so they are looking for positions where they can remain relevant in opposition.”
Voter Register
Dr. Ofosu Ampofo also raised concerns about the credibility of the current voter register, calling for an independent forensic audit to resolve what he termed a “tainted” document.
“The NDC has issued a statement about a nationwide demonstration because, for the first time in our country’s history, the Electoral Commission declared presidential results five times. They have admitted there are challenges with the voter register, and we demand an independent audit,” he said.
He added that the integrity of the electoral process rests on the voter register, stating, “For the first time since 1992, the Electoral Commission has admitted that there are problems with wrongful transfers. We will demonstrate and call on the international community and civil society to ensure our voter register is credible and fit for purpose.”
Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo said this Saturday during the campaign launch of Bismark Tetteh Nyarko, MP for Upper Manya Krobo.
Ofosu Ampofo urged constituents to vote massively for both John Dramani Mahama and Bismark Tetteh Nyarko, emphasizing the importance of securing a majority in parliament. “John Mahama will need a strong majority in parliament to move Ghana forward and reset the country. I urge you to reject the NPP and vote for Bismark Tetteh Nyarko,” he said.
The Eastern Region NDC Chairman, Mark Oliver Kevor, officially launched the campaign and introduced Bismark Tetteh Nyarko as the party’s parliamentary candidate for Upper Manya Krobo. Kevor urged voters to support both Nyarko and John Dramani Mahama to ensure coordinated development in the constituency.
In a show of commitment to his constituents, Bismark Tetteh Nyarko donated a brand-new canoe to the Akateng fishing community, emphasizing his dedication to improving the livelihoods of the people.
