NAPO is suffering from “Verbal diarrhea” – Former NDC Chairman

Dr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, the Immediate Past National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has offered a word of caution to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) regarding their running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, as the 2024 general elections approach.

In his view, the NPP would be wise to limit Dr. Prempeh’s speeches during the campaign, as his statements have often led to controversy and negative attention.

Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Simpieso with host Emmanuel Martey on September 12, 2024, Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo expressed concerns about Dr. Prempeh’s communication style, describing it as reckless and sometimes offensive.

He noted that Dr. Prempeh, known by many as “NAPO,” has frequently made remarks that come across as insensitive, causing damage to his public image.

Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo humorously remarked that the NPP’s running mate seems to suffer from what he called “verbal diarrhea,” a tendency to speak without careful consideration of the consequences.

With the elections drawing near, Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo advised the NPP to exercise more control over Dr. Prempeh’s public appearances.

He suggested that NAPO’s speeches should be well-scripted and carefully managed to avoid off-the-cuff remarks that could harm the party’s chances.

He emphasized the importance of keeping the running mate on message, particularly during campaign rallies where the energy and excitement of the crowd can sometimes lead to “loose talk.”

Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo also stressed that while Dr. Prempeh brings significant experience to the table, his outspoken nature needs to be tempered.

He advised the NPP’s communication team to write speeches for their running mate that are respectful, calm, and measured in tone, ensuring that they reflect humility and politeness.

This, he argued, would prevent any unnecessary controversies or “damage-control” situations during the critical final stretch of the campaign.

Ultimately, Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo urged the NPP to recognize the importance of discipline in communication as they gear up for the 2024 elections, suggesting that the success of the campaign could hinge on how well they manage their running mate’s public statements.
