“FDA Ghana Leads Regional Initiative to Enhance Regulatory Capacity”

The Food and drugs Authority (FDA) Ghana wrapped up a month-long regional study visit, hosted in collaboration with the Global Health Policy Program (GHPP).

The event brought together pharmaceutical regulators from The Gambia, Liberia, and Sierra Leone for hands-on training, aimed at bolstering public health systems across Africa.

Chief Executive Office of the FDA, Dr. Delese Mimi Darko, reaffirmed the Authority’s dedication to fostering regional collaboration.

She stressed the importance of strong regulatory frameworks in safeguarding public health and called for ongoing partnerships to address Africa’s health challenges.

The training emphasized practical, real-world applications, ensuring that medicines across the region meet the highest standards.

Director of Operations at The Gambia’s Medicines Control Agency, Mr. Tijan Jallow, praised the transformative impact of the lab training, noting that FDA Ghana’s openness will enhance public health outcomes throughout the region.

The Authority’s commitment to sharing its expertise has strengthened the regulatory frameworks in participating countries.

Director of the FDA’s Center for Laboratory Services and Research, Mr. Karikari-Boateng, encouraged participants to maintain close ties with FDA Ghana as they implement their new skills.

Mr. Jallow noted the importance of collaboration in tackling public health challenges, underscoring the importance of regional cooperation in minimizing risks from substandard medicines.
