Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, emphasized that peace and credible elections cannot be guaranteed if the electoral process is marred by deep-seated mistrust.
Speaking at the 2024 Speaker Annual Seminar Lecture, Mr. Bagbin highlighted the critical role of trust in ensuring free and fair elections. He urged state institutions to work diligently to build and maintain trust among all stakeholders involved in the electoral process.
Bagbin stressed that transparency, accountability, and adherence to democratic principles are essential for fostering confidence in the electoral system, which is crucial for avoiding conflicts and ensuring a peaceful transition of power.
He also called for the involvement of civil society organizations and other stakeholders to work collaboratively towards strengthening the integrity of the electoral process.
