Former Finance Minister Seth Terkper has articulated a firm belief that John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) could effectuate significant transformation in Ghana within a four-year term, should they emerge victorious in the upcoming December 7 elections.
In a press conference held in Accra on August 27, Terkper lauded the NDC’s historical record, asserting that their achievements during previous tenures stand as a testament to their capability to govern effectively.
He emphasized Mahama’s leadership qualities, positing that they are crucial for steering the nation towards improved economic prospects.
“The NDC’s record in office is clear and substantiated,” Terkper stated. “For those who harbor doubts, we are open to discussion. Regarding fiscal management, we concluded the year with a deficit of 6.1%, contrary to the inflated figures of 9.3% and 10.3%, which were misrepresentations that we successfully challenged.”
He continued, “The IMF has since corrected these figures, and we have provided evidence of our actual fiscal performance. Consequently, our manifesto is grounded in our proven track record.”
Mr Terkper’s remarks indicate a strategic effort by the NDC to draw upon its governance history as a foundation for regaining public trust and support in the forthcoming elections.
