Concerns Raised Over Security and Voter Displacement Ahead of December Elections-Richard Kumadoe

The use of security forces during the December 7th elections could be problematic if there is any perception of intimidation from security officers aligned with political parties. This highlights the need for political parties to recruit knowledgeable and skilled individuals who understand election laws and can effectively resist any undue influence from security personnel.

Security analyst, fraud expert, and consultant Richard Kumadoe discussed these issues on the Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show on Ahotor 92.3 FM, hosted by Citizen Kofi Owusu in Accra. Kumadoe addressed concerns about the voter register, acknowledging its flaws but emphasizing that a critical issue for the 2024 elections is what he terms “Voter Displacement.”

Voter displacement is a pressing issue that requires the attention of all stakeholders before election day in Ghana. Kumadoe noted that the Electoral Commission has been realigning polling stations and voting centers across various communities. If voters do not check their personal records and updated voting locations, a significant number may find themselves displaced on election day. This could lead to chaotic situations at polling stations.

Kumadoe warned that voters unable to find their names at their usual polling stations and unaware of their new locations could experience anxiety, fear of disenfranchisement, and heightened stress, potentially causing pandemonium at polling centers.

To mitigate these issues, Kumadoe suggested that the Electoral Commission should send direct notifications to individual voters with their updated personal details and new voting locations. This is particularly important for those who have transferred their votes from one region or area to another.

Election management teams are advised to consider the fundamental aspects of election processes, risk indicators, and basic resolution techniques to ensure a smooth and orderly voting experience.
