NDC Station Calls on NPP, Dr. Bawumia, and National Peace Council to Uphold Rule of Law and Transparency in Electoral Process
Accra Ghana , Date
- NDC Station, a leading voice in promoting democracy and fairness in Ghana’s electoral process, is urging the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Vice President Dr. Bawumia, and the National Peace Council to cease engaging in what we describe as “mafia acts” and to instead respect the rule of law and demonstrate transparency in the voting process.
In a strongly worded statement, NDC Station criticized the National Peace Council for allegedly showing bias in the country’s electoral proceedings and failing to hold accountable those responsible for electoral violence. NDC Station highlighted concerns about the effectiveness of previous peace pacts, including the one signed in 2020, which failed to prevent the loss of eight lives during the elections.
According to NDC Station, the National Peace Council, influenced by what they refer to as the “Nana Addo and Dr. Bawumia Cartel,” has neglected to take action against perpetrators of electoral violence, allowing them to roam freely and endanger the lives of Ghanaians. NDC Station asserts that the peace council, instead of serving as an independent arbiter, has become a tool for covering up the misdeeds of certain political figures.
“We, as the youth of Ghana, refuse to accept this unfairness and corruption,” stated the patron for NDC Station Dr. Anthony Sorkpah. “The National Peace Council must uphold its mandate to ensure peace and justice for all Ghanaians, without fear or favor.”
NDC Station called for an immediate reassessment of the peace pacts and for a renewed commitment to transparency and accountability in the electoral process. The group emphasized the need for all parties to respect the rule of law and work towards a peaceful and fair electoral environment.
Following recent incidents of electoral violence and a lack of accountability, NDC Station, a prominent advocate for democracy and fairness in Ghana, is calling on the National Peace Council to take immediate and decisive action to address past unresolved issues before requesting the NDC to sign peace pacts for the upcoming 2024 elections.
In a strongly-worded statement, NDC Station emphasized the importance of holding accountable those responsible for electoral violence and ensuring justice is served. NDC Station expressed bewilderment at the Peace Council’s inaction in addressing such matters, questioning the council’s effectiveness and purpose in the face of escalating violence during elections.
“It is simple: bring the perpetrators before the law and deal with them accordingly,” said NDC Station. “We find it concerning that the Peace Council fails to act when violence occurs during elections. What is the point of having a Peace Council if it does not fulfill its duties to promote peace and justice?”
NDC Station stressed the urgent need for fairness, transparency, and accountability in the electoral process to safeguard the future of Ghana and its people. The group raised alarms about the infiltration of independent bodies by political interests, warning against the dangers of allowing political mafias to manipulate institutions for their own gain.
“It is unacceptable that our independent bodies are being compromised for political advantages,” the Patron added. “The NDC demands an end to this interference and calls for a return to true independence and integrity in our electoral processes.”
NDC Station underscored the critical importance of upholding the rule of law and ensuring a free and fair electoral environment, free from undue influence and manipulation. The group urged all stakeholders to prioritize the well-being of the country and its citizens over political expediency and self-interest.
