There was a lot of excitement heading into the final night of the Democratic National Convention, not only because Vice President Kamala Harris was set to accept the party’s nomination, but also because there was hope that Beyoncé might make a surprise appearance at the event.
Speculation about Beyoncé’s involvement at the DNC started and ended on social media. After CNN reported that Beyoncé had granted the vice president permission to use her 2016 song “Freedom” for her presidential campaign, many questions arose.
There were talks about a possible formal endorsement from Beyoncé, a concert in support of Harris, and even wild speculations about Beyoncé and Taylor Swift coming together to support Harris in Chicago.
Interestingly, Shasti Conrad, the Washington Democratic Party’s chair, expressed her fandom for both Beyoncé and the vice president, referring to both the Beyhive and “KHive” as being rabid fanbases.
Delegates and attendees also added to the excitement by wearing cowboy hats and “Cowboy Kamala” banners on the first day of the DNC.
The hype around Beyoncé’s potential appearance increased when White House political director Emily Ruiz shared a bee emoji on social media.
However, the excitement eventually came to an end when it was confirmed that Beyoncé would not be performing at the DNC.
