Family of Dr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo Establishes Fund to Support Brilliant but Needy JHS Graduates in Akyem Adukrom

Former National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo and his family, have taken a significant step to support education in his hometown Akyem Adukrom in the Eastern Region.

The family has established a fund aimed at assisting brilliant but needy Junior High School (JHS) graduates in the community, starting with a seed money of GHC50,000.00.

The initiative, which was officially launched at the one-year anniversary of the death of Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo’s mother in Akyem Adukrom.

Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo indicated that this is an ongoing commitment to improving educational opportunities for the youth in the area.

The fund will provide financial support to deserving students who, despite their academic potential, face financial challenges that could hinder their ability to continue their education at the Senior High School (SHS) level.

In his speech at the one-year anniversary and thanks-giving service of his late mother, Madam Mary Gyawubea Badu at the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Akyem Adukrom, Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo emphasized the importance of education as a tool for personal and community development.

He expressed his desire to see more young people from Akyem Adukrom and surrounding areas pursue higher education and become leaders in their respective fields.

“Education is the key to unlocking the potential of our youth and transforming our communities,” Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo stated. “This fund is a modest contribution towards ensuring that financial constraints do not stand in the way of our young people’s dreams and aspirations.”

The fund will be managed by a committee of local educationists and community leaders who will oversee the selection process and ensure that the funds are distributed transparently and equitably.

Beneficiaries will be chosen based on academic performance, financial need, and their potential to succeed at the SHS level.

The seed money of GHC50,000.00 will be invested and part will be used to cover the first batch of beneficiaries.

There are plans to raise additional funds through donations and fundraising events in the near future.

Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo also called on other well-meaning individuals and organizations to support the initiative, noting that collective efforts are needed to make a lasting impact.

Community members and stakeholders have lauded Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo’s gesture, describing it as a timely and much-needed intervention.

Many believe that the fund will go a long way in reducing the dropout rate among JHS graduates in the area and will motivate more students to excel academically.

As the fund begins to take shape, hopes are high that it will serve as a catalyst for greater educational achievements in Akyem Adukrom, helping to nurture the next generation of leaders and professionals from the community.
