Prof. Opoku Agyemang: Banking sector cleanup hinders access to business capital

Running mate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, has attributed the inability of traders to access business capital to the collapse of numerous microfinance companies as part of the banking sector cleanup.

She argued that the move has compounded the financial accessibility woes, especially for market women.

During her visit to selected marketplaces in Accra, Prof. Opoku Agyemang highlighted the NDC’s proposed establishment of a women’s bank as a way of empowering women entrepreneurs.

She, however, noted the inability of traders to access credit facilities due to the collapse of some microfinance companies as a result of the banking sector cleanup.

The NDC running mate proceeded to the Kaneshie Market complex, where she, among other things, urged traders to vote for the NDC, while touting the party’s flagbearer, John Mahama’s commitment to implementing women-centred initiatives.
