Workers need to unite to save the Country from the ruling elite – Abraham Koomson

The Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL) has urged all organized labour groups to come together and take a more active role in fighting for the rights and interests of workers across the country.

Mr. Abraham Koomson, the GFL Secretary General, emphasized that when workers express dissatisfaction or engage in strikes, it reflects their frustration and feelings of being mistreated by the government.

He noted that such actions by the government are harmful to the well-being and growth of employees.

He stressed the importance of unity among workers and labour groups, encouraging them to stand up against the government and company managements whose actions negatively impact workers.

Speaking on Ahotor 92.3 FM’s Yepe Ahunu show with host Nana Dogbe, Mr. Koomson urged workers to unite in order to save the nation from the current government, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which he claims does not have the workers’ best interests at heart.

Kwame Nkrumah understood the power of workers and relied heavily on labour unions during the fight against colonialism,” Mr. Koomson said. “Now, the best way forward is for workers to come together and remove the NPP from power, as their actions are causing job losses.”

He argued that labour unions should set aside their political interests and focus on rescuing Ghana from the NPP government. According to him, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is the right party to lead the country, and he called on workers to support the NDC, regardless of their personal political affiliations.

The NPP, however, has claimed that they are the only government in Ghana’s history to have created more jobs within an eight-year period, boasting that they have created 2.1 million jobs, with data to back up their claim.

Mr. Koomson questioned the accuracy of the NPP’s job creation figures, accusing the government of dishonesty. He argued that if 2.1 million jobs had indeed been created, the youth would not be expressing such widespread dissatisfaction.
