Trading Volume Soars By 78,000% as MTN Ghana Dominates Market Activity

The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) experienced a robust trading session on Thursday with market capitalization surging to GH₵93,016.58 billion, bolstered by gains in Benso Oil Palm Plantation (BOPP), Enterprise Group Limited (EGL), and Unilever Ghana Limited (UNIL), which closed at GH₵23.10, GH₵1.65, and GH₵16.00 respectively.

In contrast, NewGold (GLD) faced headwinds, shedding GH₵4.29 to close at GH₵366.24.

A significant uptick in trading activity was observed, with volumes soaring by an extraordinary 78,007.62%, from 21,890 shares to a staggering 17,097,758 shares. The value of shares traded also witnessed a dramatic increase, climbing 60,556.95% from GH₵129,929.55 to GH₵78,811,301.49.

A total of 11 stocks were exchanged during the trading session on Thursday.

MTN Ghana (MTNGH) led the market in both volume and value, with 16,908,432 shares traded, valued at GH₵48,748,732.95. In comparison, Ecobank Ghana Limited (EGH) saw modest activity, with 6,333 shares traded at a value of GH₵38,631.30.

The GSE Composite Index on Thursday, advanced to 4,462.45 points, reflecting a year-to-date (YTD) return of 42.56%. The Financial Stocks Index also edged up by 2.93 points to 2,118.45, pushing the YTD return to 11.40%.
