UDS Staff Union Begins Indefinite Strike Action Amid Safety Concerns

The University for Development Studies’ Senior Staff Association has declared an indefinite strike beginning on August 26, 2024, effectively halting all academic and administrative activities.

The decision to strike is due to management’s inaction on staff safety issues despite repeated pleas and demands from the Senior Staff Association’s Executive Council, which have fallen on deaf ears.

Staff is living in fear after their colleague, Mr. Issah Adam Jafar, received threats, and the union is demanding action to ensure his safety and end the anxiety gripping the workplace.

The Senior Staff Association is forced to take extreme action to protect its members since all other attempts to resolve the issue have failed.

The union’s demands include:

  • Immediate action to investigate the incident and hold those responsible accountable.
  • Ensuring the safety and security of all staff members.
  • Implementing measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
  • Providing a safe and conducive working environment for all staff members.

The Senior Staff Association believes that the strike will prompt a swift resolution, bringing much-needed peace and stability back to the university community.

The union urges all stakeholders to recognize its legitimate industrial action and support its efforts to ensure a safe and secure working environment for all staff members.
