The USA women’s basketball Olympic team stunned Japan with a decisive 102-76 victory at Pierre Mauray in France. The reigning champions are poised to make a formidable push for an unprecedented eighth consecutive Olympic gold medal.
The Americans asserted their dominance on the court in their Group C opener, with Breanna Stewart and A’ja Wilson combining for 46 points. Team captain Diana Taurasi, making her sixth Olympic Games appearance for Team USA in Paris, led the squad to victory over Japan.
The Japanese displayed their agility on the court, capitalizing on seven three-pointers in the first half by Rui Machida and Mai Yamamoto. However, their efforts were overshadowed by the American team’s prowess, ultimately securing the win.
The Team USA Women’s Basketball Olympic team is set to face the host nation France and Canada in Group C.
