Ghana’s current economic : I believe that the NPP ought to take responsibility for its fair part of the fault – Kwaku Kwarteng

Kwaku Kwarteng, a former deputy minister of finance and member of parliament for Obuasi West in the Ashanti Region, has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is partially to blamed for Ghana’s current economic difficulties.

He claims that while the NPP was not the cause of the country’s economic issues, it (NPP) did miss opportunities for reforms that could have helped restart the economy.

He said, acknowledging its responsibility is a surefire way for the party to improve public relations and demonstrate its willingness to make amends.

By doing this, he claimed, the party will have a stronger chance of winning the elections in December.

Kwaku Kwarteng consequently called on his party to own up to their part in creating the current state of affairs.

“It is also important that if we are going to solve this problem well, we put it in context, that it is an economic management culture we have lived with for so long, and that it is not just changing a government or a political party that would change it,”

Mr. Kwarteng in an interview said, ‘I want us to have this kind of conversation because it requires a change in perspective on how the political elites view the nation’s resources”. He said.

Although voicing this concern as the elections get near, Mr. Kwarteng stated that he wishes the NPP to assess what they have done over the previous few decades. He stressed that the political elite has fallen short of its duty to offer Ghanaians the kind of competent leadership that will enable them to live prosperous lives.

“We can now say, ‘Going forward, things would be different,’ if we can get the NPP to acknowledge that, which is not to say it is just the NPP, the previous government, and all.”There is no way we wouldn’t win the next elections if we do that, and we sell the message in a credible, honest, transparent way,” he declared.”
