Head coach of Ghana’s Under 20 Women’s National Football Team, Yussif Basigi, expresses the team’s profound motivation to leave a lasting impact at the forthcoming 2024 FIFA Under 20 Women’s World Cup in Columbia.
The Black Princesses engaged in the tournament back in 2018, yet regrettably fell short of advancing to the subsequent stage. Basigi attributes this setback to the state of Ghanaian football normalisation during that period, which failed to provide the necessary competitive environment for the players to maintain their fitness for the tournament.
However, he asserts the team’s preparedness for this year’s competition. Despite Ghana’s consistent presence in the Under 20 World Cup, progression beyond the group stage has remained elusive, serving as the primary impetus for the team.
In Group E alongside Austria, Japan, and New Zealand, Ghana’s triumph in the 2023 African Games, clinching the gold medal, underscores their potential for success in the upcoming World Cup in Columbia.
