You can’t compare Akufo-Addo to even Mahama to talk about Nkrumah – Eric Asane Tano

Political Analyst Eric Asane Tano has cautioned the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) against comparing the achievements of the Akufo-Addo-led government with those of Ghana’s first president, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

During his unveiling in Kumasi on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, claimed that no president, including Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, has developed Ghana as much as President Akufo-Addo has since 2017.

However, speaking on Ahotor FM’s morning show ‘Adekyee Mu Nsem,’ Mr. Tano condemned this comparison, stating that it is misguided and insulting to Ghanaians, considering the unparalleled achievements of Nkrumah’s government.

He urged the NPP to avoid comparing their achievements to those of Nkrumah as they can’t even compare their record with that of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) under John Mahama.

Mr. Tano noted that Kwame Nkrumah’s influence extended across Africa, but he was betrayed by the forebears of the current NPP members.

“Africa is where it is today because of a few family members in Ghana. If it wasn’t for the United Party (UP), Africa could have been united. The UP party never liked Kwame Nkrumah, so NAPO’s comments are not surprising to me,” he told Citizen Kofi Owusu.

Eric Asane Tano criticized the handlers of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh for their poor performance, suggesting that as an educationist, NAPO should have had a prepared speech. He believes it is critical for the NPP to monitor NAPO’s attitude and that he needs a counselor and a speechwriter.

Mr. Tano also suggested that NAPO’s comments reflect the views of President Akufo-Addo. He accused the President of deliberately removing the 2 Cedi note featuring Kwame Nkrumah’s image as part of attempts to erase Nkrumah’s legacy.
