Security Recruitment: “What the NPP is doing will not Break the 8 but Break Ghana – Lanchene Toobu

Member of Parliament for the Wa West Constituency, Peter Lanchene Toobu, has opposed the government’s restricted recruitment into the security services.

Interior Minister Henry Quartey announced the recruitment of about 11,000 individuals from a backlog of applicants.

The breakdown includes 3,000 for the Ghana Immigration Service, 4,000 for the Ghana Police Service, 2,000 for the Ghana National Fire Service, 1,500 for the Ghana Prison Service, and 500 for the Narcotics Control Commission.

However, during an interview on Ahotor FM’s morning show ‘Adekyee Mu Nsem’ with host Citizen Kofi Owusu, Peter Lanchene Toobu disputed the claim that there is a backlog of applicants.

He encouraged the government to conduct a public recruitment process, allowing unemployed graduates to apply for positions in the security services without having to pay any fees.

Lanchene Toobu called for an immediate halt to the current recruitment exercise, labeling it as illegal.

He demanded that the process be opened to the general public to ensure fairness and transparency.

The Wa West MP emphasized that a transparent recruitment process is essential for maintaining peace in Ghana.

He warned that the Interior Minister’s current approach would not help the government achieve its goal of securing a long-term mandate but would instead disrupt the peace of the country.
