2024 election: NAPO, Bawumia ticket will struggle – Kobby Mensah

Political Marketing Strategist, Professor Kobby Mensah has stated that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s ticket for the 2024 election will struggle.

Speaking in an interview in Accra, Professor Kobby Mensah explained that Dr. Bawumia’s running mate will not tone down or change his personality.

“I think it’s a discord. I mean, the team is struggling. The team itself is cobbled, you know, inappropriately. I don’t think that you know, given the Vice president’s way, he would have actually chosen that. People have actually suggested that. But even when he’s chosen it, you want a certain, you know, a harmony, you know. But of course, we’re not seeing the harmony.

“And of course, you can say that they’ve just been put together. But going forward, I don’t see where the harmony is going to come from. Obviously, the personalities are completely different from the evidence of what NAPO did yesterday. Doesn’t show that indeed there’s going to be any toning down or any departure from the personality challenges”, the political strategist stated.

He continued: “And so for me, it is a very weird combination. And I can foresee trouble. I can foresee difficulty, you know, for the campaign going forward to December. But of course, we wait to see”.

Background

The newly unveiled running mate of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party, Dr. Opoku Prempeh, has courted a barrage of criticisms following his claim that the incumbent President, Nana Akufo-Addo, has outperformed all previous presidents, including Ghana’s first president after independence, Kwame Nkrumah.

Speaking at a rally in Kumasi, where he was officially introduced as the running mate, the former Education Minister described President Akufo-Addo’s achievements as unprecedented.

His claims have sparked various reactions, with many accusing him of intellectual dishonesty.

“In telling our history as Ghanaians, if Akufo-Addo retires, I can beat my chest and bodily declare that no president in our history has performed better than Akufo-Addo. From 1957 to date, you can mention Kwame Nkrumah and any other president, none of them have managed Ghana better than Akufo-Addo.

“I say this with pride and with the fact that Akufo-Addo has performed better and surpassed all other presidents in our history. He has performed so well, so we don’t have to allow what occurred in 2008 to repeat itself. Chairman Wontumi said this, and I want to reiterate it. We cannot allow what happened in 2008 to repeat itself”, the outgoing Energy Minister disclosed.
