SSNIT Hotels Sale: Don’t Sell our Hotels – Abraham Koomson tells SSNIT

Abraham Koomson, the Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), has strongly warned the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) against selling four hotels owned by the country.

Mr. Koomson insists that these hotels should not be sold under any circumstances. He cautioned that if SSNIT proceeds with the sale, it will face significant opposition and unrest.

The GFL is prepared to mobilize Organized Labour to oppose any attempt to sell the hotels.

SSNIT has defended its decision to sell a 60% stake in several of its hotels to Rock City Hotel Limited, a company owned by Bryan Acheampong, the Minister for Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for Abetifi.

At a press briefing on Monday, July 8, SSNIT’s Director General, Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo, explained that these hotels have consistently incurred losses and do not pay dividends. Selling them, he argued, is the only viable option to revive their operations.

Osafo-Maafo stated that SSNIT sought a strategic investor to address the issue after all other failed efforts.

He assured that the procurement process followed all legal requirements, making the decision financially sound.

During an interview on JoyNews’ program ‘The Pulse’ with Elton Brobbey, monitored by Ahotoronline.com, Abraham Koomson emphasized that Ghanaians want to hear that the sale has been halted.

He warned that if the government does not stop the sale, there will be a massive demonstration.
