The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin is leading the legislature to take steps to engage stakeholders in ensuring a free and fair 2024 presidential and parliamentary election come December 7, 2024.
The move according to the speaker is to avert any breach of the peace and stability of the country as a result of a disputed election.
In his welcome address to MPs after returning from the break, Alban Bagbin revealed the team from Parliament together with the prominent members of the clergy will be engaging the EC, Police, National Security Council, Presidential Candidates, party executives among others all geared towards a peaceful poll.
The EC chairperson Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensah according to the speaker has expressed her willingness to avail herself to such engagements.
Bagbin however warned the worse might be in store for the country if immediately steps are not taken given the troubles of the voter registration and transfer exercise.
The speaker declared soldiers are not needed at voting centers on December 7 arguing that job must be left to the police
Minority leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson on his part asked the house to summon the EC chairperson over the challenges of the voter registration and voter transfer exercise.
Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin on his part however argued even though the EC has not been perfect, its performance is an improvement on what existed in the past.
