Akufo-Addo can’t run away from his name; even children know he is a Clearing Agent – Former MP

Former Member of Parliament for the Mfantseman Constituency, Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, has claimed that even children know President Akufo-Addo clears his appointees whenever they are involved in corruption scandals.

Mr. Quansah asserts that the President cannot escape the label of “Clearing Agent,” a term used to describe someone who absolves others of wrongdoing. This accusation has been notably echoed by former President John Mahama, who has repeatedly accused Akufo-Addo of enabling corruption within his administration.

In response to these allegations, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has strongly denied being a “clearing agent.” Speaking at the new Law House commissioning in Accra on Monday, June 10, the President emphasized his administration’s commitment to upholding due process and the principles of justice in combating corruption.

President Akufo-Addo addressed the public, highlighting the importance of procedural fairness and legal norms.

He referred to Mahama’s criticisms, saying, “I am sure we are all aware of the statement by the former president and perennial NDC presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama stigmatizing me as a clearing agent because, for him, mere allegation without more is enough to merit condemnation of an accused public official, especially one of my administration.”

The President firmly reiterated his stance on following due process and natural justice, stating, “For my part, and let me state it again for the record, I will not set aside due process and the rules of natural justice on the altar of the fight against corruption, no matter how much opprobrium this position incurs for me.”

Speaking on Ahotor FM‘s morning show ‘AdeKyee Mu Nsem‘ with host Citizen Kofi Owusu, Mr. Quansah provided several examples that he believes demonstrate that the President consistently clears his appointees whenever they are implicated in corruption scandals.
