Former President John Dramani Mahama strongly condemned the detention of Phillis Naa Koryoo, the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Awutu Senya East, warning that this action could escalate political tensions.
In a statement, Mr. Mahama urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the government to prioritize justice to maintain peace and stability, calling for Naa Koryoo’s immediate release.
Security Analyst Richard Kumador, speaking on Ahotor FM‘s morning show ‘Adekyee Mu Nsem‘ with host Citizen Kofi Owusu, supported Mahama’s comments. He emphasized that the police should not need direction from the NDC presidential candidate to know what is right.
Mr. Kumador also urged IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare to closely monitor the situation in Kasoa.
He expressed concern about the declining professionalism within the police force and pointed out the alarming fact that leaders of the two main political parties in Kasoa possess firearms.
He questioned when and where these guns might be used, highlighting the potential for violence.
