Naa Koryoo Arrest: The NPP is determined to remain in power. Instead of lamenting, the NDC should confront them head-on – GFL Secretary

The Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson, advises the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to stop complaining about their opponents’ actions and instead focus on winning the upcoming general elections.

He believes the NPP is determined to stay in power and suggests that the NDC confront them directly.

During an interview on Ahotor FM‘s ‘Yepe Ahunu‘ with host Nana Dogbe, Mr. Koomson praised NDC members who went to the Cantonments Police Station to demand the release of their Parliamentary Candidate, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor.

She was arrested and detained on Friday, June 7, but the reasons for her arrest have not been made public.

Koryoo Okunor, running for the parliamentary seat in the Awutu Senya East constituency, was arrested alongside two others in connection with a gun found in her vehicle and a riot at the Electoral Commission office.

Despite the lack of official comment from the police, reports suggest the gun may be registered in her name with a minor spelling discrepancy.

The NDC’s Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, denies any discrepancy in her name and accuses the NPP of political persecution.

The arrest has sparked protests from NDC members, who accuse the NPP of using state agencies against them.

Abraham Koomson commends NDC supporters for demanding Koryoo Okunor’s release and urges them to resist any unjust orders from the NPP.

He also criticizes a survey by Professor Smart Sarpong, alleging bias due to Sarpong’s NPP affiliation.

In the lead-up to the elections, Professor Smart Sarpong’s survey indicates the NDC is ahead with 38.8% of the votes, while the NPP trails closely with 34.5%.

However, Mr. Koomson advises Sarpong to focus on teaching rather than conducting biased surveys.
