Ghana hosts the inaugural West Africa Music & Arts Festival on Juneteenth

This event will be a vibrant celebration of music, arts, and culture, highlighting the rich heritage of West Africa and its global influence. It is particularly significant as it coincides with Juneteenth, a day commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States.

By hosting WAMAFest on Juneteenth, Ghana is paying tribute to this historic moment and demonstrating its commitment to the unity and empowerment of the African Diaspora.

According to Akwasi Agyeman, CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority: “For us here in Ghana, rethinking tourism means rethinking the work we do and we see music and the Arts in general as a low-hanging fruit that can help change the fortunes of our country.”

There will be a dynamic music industry conference, featuring thought-provoking discussions and workshops led by renowned musicians, songwriters, and producers. The festival grounds at La Beach Hotel will feature captivating art installations showcasing West African creativity through sculptures, paintings, and multimedia displays.

In partnership with the African American Association of Ghana (AAAG), WAMAFest will also host a grand parade on June 22, weaving through the streets of Accra to celebrate shared ancestry.

This event promises to be an electrifying fusion of music, arts, and culture, and I’m looking forward to the experience.
