AG Leaked Tape: Former Aowin MP Says If Ofosu-Ampofo Faces Court Over Leaked Tape, So Should Godfred Dame

Former Member of Parliament for the Aowin Constituency, Mathias Kwame Ntow, has sharply criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for defending Attorney General Godfred Dame. This criticism comes in the wake of a leaked phone conversation between Dame and Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the ongoing ambulance procurement case.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) released an audio recording in which Mr. Dame allegedly pressures Richard Jakpa to implicate Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson in the case. Dr. Ato Forson, a former Deputy Finance Minister, is currently on trial for his alleged role in procuring faulty ambulances for Ghana. The case has sparked public debate, with many calling for the Attorney General’s resignation due to his conduct.

Mr. Ntow pointed out the inconsistency in the NPP’s stance, saying, “The NPP is prosecuting the former National Chairman of the NDC, Dr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, over an alleged leaked tape, yet they claim the leaked tape of Godfred Yeboah Dame is doctored.”

In an interview with Emmanuel Martey on Ahotor FM‘s Simpieso show, Mathias Ntow condemned the Attorney General’s actions as unprofessional, stating that they brought embarrassment to both Mr. Dame and his office.

Mr. Ntow accused Mr. Dame of perjury and described the situation as unfortunate. He criticized the Attorney General’s attempt to coerce Mr. Jakpa into changing his testimony to implicate Dr. Ato Forson, calling it a clear violation of professional ethics.

“There was an issue with how the Attorney General tried to pressure Mr. Jakpa, the third defendant, to alter his information to implicate Dr. Ato Forson, the Minority Leader,” Ntow emphasized.

The former Aowin MP questioned Mr. Dame’s motives, suggesting that the Attorney General knew his actions were wrong but proceeded regardless, which violates professional standards.
