My Respectful Response to President Nana Akufo-Addo Regarding His Remarks on Legacy
Mr. President,
With due respect, I have taken note of your recent comments suggesting that His Excellency John Dramani Mahama would “dismantle your legacy” if re-elected as president. Instead of viewing this as a threat, it should be seen as an opportunity for Ghana’s advancement.
In truth, Mr. President, John Mahama’s potential return to office signifies hope for rectifying what you term as your “legacy”—a legacy tainted by mismanagement and hardship.
Allow me to outline the seven aspects that John Mahama seeks to address:
Financial Institution Failures: Your tenure saw the collapse of indigenous banks and other businesses, leading to dire consequences for many individuals. The use of taxpayer funds to exacerbate this crisis will be remembered by Ghanaians.
Taxation Burdens: Despite pledges to reduce taxes, your administration introduced e-levy and emission taxes, contradicting pre-election promises. This has strained the finances of many Ghanaians.
Corruption Concerns: Allegations of widespread corruption have plagued your administration, with few held accountable. In contrast, John Mahama has shown a commitment to fighting corruption.
Financial Mismanagement: Significant losses at the Bank of Ghana and questionable financial transactions raise doubts about your administration’s fiscal prudence.
Educational Challenges: The introduction of the “double-track” system has disrupted the education sector. John Mahama aims to restore stability to our schools.
Currency Depreciation: Despite assurances, the depreciation of the cedi under your administration has had economic consequences. Questions surround the effectiveness of your economic policies.
Borrowing Excesses: Your administration’s borrowing practices and allegations of misuse of funds have raised concerns. John Mahama’s approach to fiscal management contrasts with your administration’s spending habits.
Mr. President, if your hands are indeed clean, you should welcome scrutiny and accountability. John Dramani Mahama’s leadership offers the potential for economic stability and integrity.
