Ernest Norgbey’s Training Skills Programme Aids 3,400 Youths in Ashaiman Constituency
In the densely populated Ashaiman constituency of Greater Accra, youth unemployment has been a pressing issue. However, Member of Parliament Ernest Norgbey has taken significant steps to address this challenge by focusing on skills training and development.
This year, 70 youths graduated from a skills training program initiated by MP Norgbey. As part of the program, graduates received sewing machines, particularly beneficial for those who completed training in clothing and textiles skills. Speaking on the Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show on Ahotor 92.3 FM, hosted by Citizen Kofi Owusu in Accra, MP Norgbey highlighted the importance of such initiatives in providing youth with employable skills.
The MP emphasized that this skills training program has been an annual endeavor, with approximately 3,400 youths benefiting from it over the years. With 33 different training modules, the program aims to equip young people with skills that enable them to become self-employed.
MP Norgbey reiterated that addressing youth employment is a key component of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) manifesto. As a result, he believes it’s essential for parliamentary representatives like himself to take the lead in supporting such initiatives.
Touching on the ongoing limited voter registration, MP Norgbey stressed the need for the Electoral Commission to establish more registration centers to accommodate the constituency’s growing population. He projected that around 10,000 new first-time voters could potentially register during the exercise. MP Norgbey expressed confidence that the Electoral Commission would respond promptly to requests for assistance, ensuring more constituents can benefit from the voter registration process.
