Mahdi Jibril, the Deputy Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has leveled accusations against Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, alleging that he is allowing fear of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to hinder his ability to carry out his duties independently.
Expressing his concerns, Mr. Jibril pointed to the case of Kingsley Nyarko, the Member of Parliament for Kwadaso, who is alleged to have bribed Electoral Commission (EC) officials during the Ejisu by-election. Jibril asserted that Nyarko, being associated with the NPP, remains unarrested despite the serious allegations against him.
During an appearance on Ahotor 92.3 FM‘s morning show ‘AdeKyee Mu Nsem‘ with host Citizen Kofi Owusu, Mr. Jibril emphasized that individuals from other political parties would have faced arrest by the Inspector General of Police over similar bribery allegations.

Mahdi Jibril went further to criticize the NPP, questioning why they would resort to bribery tactics to secure victory in their stronghold. He suggested that such actions indicate a lack of confidence in their ability to win elections fairly and could foreshadow their descent to the opposition after the upcoming 2024 general elections.
