Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang’s political stature and maturity displayed yesterday speaks volumes about her depth on issues and the tasks ahead as she positions herself for victory. The platform where she was officially introduced, endorsed for the second time as the running mate for the flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress, created a colorful moment. Her discourse on national topical issues, spanning politics, the economy, corruption, and the credibility of the electoral commission, indicated her readiness to emerge as the first Vice President in the fourth republic if the NDC secures victory in the December polls to form the next government.
Professor Kobby Mensah expressed these sentiments on the Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show on Ahotor 92.3 FM, hosted by Citizen Kofi Owusu in Accra. He remarked that the event was a political process of election and political campaign, and her speech resonated well with the audience, delivering a resounding message of hope, inspiration, and forward-thinking to complement the flag bearer’s quest for victory. He praised her compassion and resolution in addressing the salient points encompassing the realities confronting the country, calling for change and advocating for the NDC to assume political leadership.
In another development, the running mate for NDC flagbearer John Mahama for the 2024 election, Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, asserted that corrupt government officials under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration would face prosecution. She emphasized that holding officials accountable for any form of embezzlement is a matter of principle and accountability. Addressing the rank and file of the NDC and other dignitaries during her introduction as the running mate to former President John Mahama, she clarified that prosecuting corrupt officials is not a threat but a promise based on the wishes of citizens across various political and social divides.
Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, lamented that corruption under the President Akufo-Addo administration is suffocating the nation to the maximum level. Speaking at the same event, he expressed concern over the moral collapse Ghana has experienced during the nearly 8 years under the current administration. He emphasized the need for change, highlighting the suffering, hardship, and dishonesty plaguing the nation.
