Parliament has allocated GH¢6.87 billion to the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) for healthcare claims and operational activities in 2024.
This includes a distribution formula that provides emergency support for dialysis patients for the first time. The enhanced funding for dialysis will be implemented upon completion of an actuarial assessment by a committee.
This allocation was approved during Parliament’s 28th sitting on March 20 this year, in accordance with Section 40 (2) of the National Health Insurance Scheme Act, 2012 (Act 852).
The funds come from various sources, including the National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL) and parliamentary approval.
