“You Can Hire Trump Himself” – Abraham Koomson Questions Ofori-Atta’s Legal Move Amid Extradition Process

TEMA, Ghana, 20 December: The Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson, has questioned the decision by former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to engage lawyers to defend him in extradition proceedings after previously informing Ghanaians that he was ill.

According to Mr. Koomson, while the former finance minister is entitled to seek legal representation, his actions and decisions while in office will ultimately determine his fate.

Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Yepe Ahunu programme on Saturday, December 20, Mr. Koomson cautioned public officials against using positions of trust to the detriment of the people, warning that such conduct often carries lasting consequences.

“Today you have gone to hire lawyers to defend you, yet you told everybody you were sick. We don’t understand this life. Using a position given to you against the people will not end well for you,” he said.

His comments follow revelations by the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, that Mr. Ofori-Atta has retained top legal practitioners in the United States to challenge efforts to extradite him to Ghana.

Dr. Ayine disclosed this during the Government Accountability Series on Thursday, December 18, 2025, after Ghana formally submitted an extradition request to U.S. authorities.

He explained that extradition proceedings in the United States are handled through the federal court system and involve several layers of judicial review.

Reacting to the development on Ahotor FM, Mr. Koomson insisted that no amount of legal defense would erase the impact of the former finance minister’s actions on the country.

“I don’t think Ken Ofori-Atta is a happy person, and he will never be happy for what he has done to this country. He can hire all the best lawyers, but nature will still deal with him,” Mr. Koomson stated.
