The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticized the Electoral Commission (EC) for not providing political parties with the electoral calendar for the 2024 elections. The NDC suggests that this failure reflects the EC’s lack of readiness for the upcoming polls and argues that the delayed release of the calendar will hinder the preparations of political parties.
According to the electoral calendar released by the EC, nominations for this year’s presidential and parliamentary elections will be accepted from September 9 to 13, marking a significant milestone in the political season. Subsequently, the balloting for positions on the presidential ballot paper will take place on September 23, 2024, followed by parliamentary balloting on September 24, 2024.
Moreover, the EC aims to announce the results of the 2024 presidential polls within three days of the voting process, provided everything proceeds as planned. The EC plans to conduct a voters’ registration exercise from May 7 to May 27, 2024, followed by a nationwide effort to replace missing voter ID cards starting on May 30, 2024. Preceding the registration exercise, there will be 56 days of public education on the exercise from April 1 to May 26, 2024.
Dr. Tanko Rashid Computer, the Deputy Director of Elections and IT of the NDC, emphasized to Ahotor news that the EC must promptly take necessary measures to ensure a seamless electoral process.
