The National Communications Authority (NCA) closed four FM Radio Stations in Bawku, in the Upper East Region.
The affected stations are Bawku FM, Source FM, Zahra FM, and Gumah FM. The decision came after suggestions from the Upper East Regional Security Council and advice from the Ministry of National Security.
The NCA shut down the stations because they were worried about how the stations were running. They said that the people talking on the radio were saying things that made the Bawku conflict worse. This conflict has hurt people and damaged things in Bawku and nearby places.
The NCA said it had to close the stations because of Section 13(1)(e) of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775). This part of the law lets the NCA stop or take away licenses if it thinks it’s important for the country’s safety or people’s good.
The NCA said it will keep working with others to make sure things are okay. They also asked everyone involved to follow the rules for talking on the radio.
