Kumawood movie lovers can now watch their favourite movies on their mobile phones via the Kumawood app.
The Kumawood app is a mobile application that hosts local movies, funny videos, and celebrity news.
This innovation is a collaboration involving Kumawood film producers MTEC-Communications, mobile app developers, and MTN.
At the launch of the app in Kumasi on Wednesday 10 May, the General Manger in charge of Consumer Marketing at MTN, Noel Kojo-Garson, said the move was meant to launch the movie industry into the digital world.
“Consumers would have the opportunity to buy daily, weekly, monthly, and annual packs to watch movies. It is relatively cheaper on the side of the customer, and also remember that if we make it cheap for the customer to be able to view, it is volume gained. The more people you get on the platform, the better it is for the players within this app,” he stated.
The CEO of Kumawood Multimedia, Sam Darko, welcomed the collaboration and was confident the innovation would save producers from piracy.
With the app, movie makers and producers can decide not to even print CDs but upload the movies onto the platform for people to watch.
The application is available on Playstore on Android phones.
