Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, Member of Parliament representing the Wa West Constituency in Ghana, has sounded the alarm regarding the concerning levels of unemployment gripping the nation.
He squarely places the blame on the New Patriotic Party (NPP), citing their unfulfilled promises of job creation made while in opposition.
The gravity of the situation is underscored by the latest findings from the Ghana Statistical Service’s (GSS) Annual Household Income and Expenditure Survey (AHIES) Labour Force Bulletin. The data from 2022 to 2023 reveals a staggering statistic: over 500,000 Ghanaians transitioned from employment to unemployment during this period, painting a grim picture of the country’s employment landscape.
In a recent interview on Ahotor 92.3 FM, Dr. Pelpuo emphasized that the government, under President Akufo-Addo’s leadership, shoulders the blame for this dire state of affairs. He believes that the NPP administration has failed to live up to its commitment to tackle unemployment effectively.
