The neglected Aliu Mahama Stadium closed down
The Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium Tamale, once a symbol of sporting pride in Northern Ghana, now stands in a state of neglect, reflecting the broader issues facing infrastructure maintenance in the region.
Originally inaugurated in 2008, the stadium has hosted numerous national and international events, showcasing the talent and potential of the area.
However, years of insufficient maintenance and neglect have taken their toll. The stadium now suffers from dilapidated facilities, including broken seats, damaged turf, and inadequate lighting.
These shortcomings not only hamper the stadium’s ability to host events but also pose safety risks to spectators and athletes alike.

Despite the stadium’s importance as a hub for sports and community gatherings, it has been overlooked in favor of other projects, exacerbating disparities between the North and the rest of the country.
Efforts to revitalize the stadium and restore it to its former glory are urgently needed. This requires a concerted effort from both government authorities and local communities to allocate resources, implement maintenance plans, and prioritize the well-being of this crucial public asset.
The current poor state of the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale is a reflection of broader issues of neglect and underinvestment in infrastructure in Northern
