The police must take the task to fight monetization of election in the country —– Nana Osei Piesie Anto

Monetisation of our internal and national election is threatening the fundamentals structures of our young democracy, of free and credible elections that forms the bases of transparent and fair elections in electing candidates to public office.

Going forward, there is a need for all stake holders to work hard to kill this canker before it gives birth to criminals and unqualified characters taking over parliament and the seat of government.

A political historian and analyst Nana Osei Piesie Anto said this on Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show on Ahotor 92.3 FM hosted by Citizen Kofi Owusu in Accra.

He is of the view that, there is huge resources of human capital in this country, which can be tap into to develop the country. Though the outcome of the New Patriotic Party has enhanced our internal democracy in electing constituency representative’s to parliament it must be encourage devoid of money and material inducement.

He opined that, the culture of vote buying is really destroying our democracy, despite we have made partial headway in consolidating our young democracy.

He called on the polices and security institution to puts mechanism in place to checked and caused arrest to serve as a deterrent to the citizenry to create enabling environment for credible candidates to offer their services to the state through elections and not at the bid of the highest bidder.

Touching on the new entrants to parliament who have defeated almost about 28 seating members of parliament. This he said does not give the National Democratic Congress an easy path to win all these seats on a silver platter. Looking at the informed decision the delegates and the constituents had made, your victory comes with hard work.

Nana Osei Piesie Anto, reiterated that, though we are going to see new faces in the 9th parliament in the fourth republic, he is of the that we are really loosing the huge of parliamentary memory of experience hands who are retiring and while some have lost their seat through financial resources and support the received from the state and other undisclosed sources which can destroy the credibility of our democratic credentials.
