Economic Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr Adu Owusu Sarkodie has said that, government must be proactive in revenue collection.
He expressed concern about government’s inability to harness the high revenue potential of the Telecom and Natural Resource sector to improve revenue generation.
Dr Sarkodie believes a number of tax measures introduced are not enough to achieve the 20% revenue targets in relation to the size of the economy by 2028.
“ A number of tax measures have already been introduced but there are still areas that are growing , that has high revenue generative potentials.
For example, the telecommunication industry is booming, natural resources….
He however indicated that, countries like Botswana, Saudi Arabian, Qatar and some others have leverage their natural resources to minimize resources to transform their economy.
He said that, there is the need to be more innovative in ensuring potential revenue areas for the economy.
