The Member of Parliament for Akuapem South, OB Amoah, says his decision to withdraw from the New Patriotic Party’s upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for January 27, 2024, is based on personal grounds and is also in the interest of the party.
OB Amoah, who also serves as the Chairman of the Research Committee of the Party, indicated that his decision not to seek re-election, just a few days before the primaries, has undergone thorough consultation with the party’s hierarchy.
Citing personal reasons and expressing concern for the party’s welfare, Amoah, also the Chairman of the Research Committee, emphasized that his choice not to pursue re-election underwent careful consultation with the party’s leadership.
Delegates of the governing New Patriotic Party will go to the polls on January 27, 2024, to select parliamentary candidates to represent the party in various constituencies ahead of the general elections in December.
The party has already selected parliamentary candidates in constituencies where it does not have sitting MPs, known in political parlance as orphan constituencies.
It has subsequently scheduled January 27 as the date for organizing primaries in constituencies it won during the 2020 polls.
While a number of candidates have been cleared for the primaries, 33 sitting MPs are contesting the polls unopposed.
He added that he will actively participate in the affairs of the party both at the national and constituency levels.
His exclusion now leaves Eric Apeadu Yeboah, Kwame Ofori Gyawu, and Samuel Annor Mensah to fiercely contest for the seat the Member of Parliament has held for four consecutive terms. OB Amoah, however, called on delegates in the Akuapem South constituency to ensure peaceful elections on Saturday.
