The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed strong determination and optimism about winning the Kpandai parliamentary seat in the upcoming rerun, despite a recent poll by Global InfoAnalytics showing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate in a narrow lead.
Although the poll findings present a positive projection for the NPP, the NDC says it considers the data a useful input that the party will strategically work with to overturn the political fortunes in its favour ahead of the December 30 rerun.
The Deputy Director of Elections of the NDC, Dr. Rashid Tanko, made these remarks during the Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show on Ahotor FM 92.3 in Accra, hosted by Kofi Owusu.
Dr. Tanko reiterated that the party has a clear strategy to maximise the short time available by carefully analysing the poll findings and addressing key issues raised by voters. According to him, the NDC will intensify efforts to convince the people of Kpandai to buy into the leadership of former President John Dramani Mahama, whom he described as a nation builder with a clear vision of resetting the country.
He added that the NDC, as a formidable political party with a strong strategic team, will work tirelessly to win the seat through peaceful engagement and issue-based campaigning, without any clashes.
Meanwhile, a survey conducted by Global InfoAnalytics ahead of the Kpandai parliamentary rerun indicates that the NPP candidate, Matthew Nyindam, is slightly ahead with 50 per cent of voter support.
Released on Sunday, December 14, 2025, the poll shows Nyindam leading the NDC candidate, Daniel Nsala Wakpal, who has 46 per cent support. Independent candidate Donkor Eric Nipani is projected to secure about 1 per cent of the votes, while 3 per cent of respondents remain undecided.
The survey reveals that the contest remains tightly contested, with Nyindam’s lead falling within a 3.9 per cent margin of error, suggesting minimal voter movement.
According to the findings, about 2 per cent of Nyindam’s previous supporters have switched allegiance to Wakpal, while a similar percentage of Wakpal’s supporters have moved to Nyindam. The poll also highlights a notable shift in support from the independent candidate, with 28 per cent of Donkor Eric Nipani’s previous supporters now backing Nyindam, contributing to his narrow lead.
Global InfoAnalytics notes that the outcome of the rerun will largely depend on voter turnout and mobilisation efforts ahead of the December 30, 2025, election.
In a related development, the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear an application on Tuesday, December 16, seeking to quash the judgment of the Tamale High Court that annulled the Kpandai parliamentary election.
The application was filed by the embattled Member of Parliament for Kpandai, Matthew Nyindam, who is challenging the High Court’s decision to nullify the December 7, 2024, parliamentary election results. Mr. Nyindam argues that the High Court erred in assuming jurisdiction over the election petition filed by the NDC candidate, Daniel Nsala Wakpal.
In his application, Mr. Nyindam is seeking a judicial review to quash the High Court’s judgment, along with all related processes and proceedings, which he describes as stemming from an invalid petition.
Following the High Court ruling, the NPP filed an application for a stay of execution to prevent the Electoral Commission and the NDC from acting on the annulment, pending the Supreme Court’s determination.
Meanwhile, the Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, Haruna Mohammed, in an interview with Citi News on Monday, December 15, 2025, said the party would wait for the Supreme Court’s ruling before deciding its next course of action.
“For now, there is no election until we get a definitive ruling from the court,” Mr. Mohammed said. “What the court decides will inform our next steps. If the ruling is favourable and in line with the law, it means that Matthew Nyindam, having won the election, will continue as Member of Parliament for Kpandai.”
He added that the party would respond firmly should the ruling go against them.
“But if the ruling comes otherwise, and the law is disregarded in the face of the Ghanaian people, we will make our position very clear and respond appropriately to whatever the court decides,” he stated.
