‘Abandoning of indelible ink is no big deal – Boakye Yiadom

A Political Analyst, Boakye Yiadom has said that, the abandonment of indelible ink by the Electoral Commission is not a big deal and must not be an issue at all.

According to him, there are measures that has been put in place to deal with double voting hence, it wouldn’t be an issue at all

He explained on Ahotor FM’s ‘Adekye Mu Nsem’ Wednesday, December 20, 2023 hosted by Nana Dogbe that, if the attitudes and mentalities of people are changed there should be no cause for alarm.

He however indicated that, if the parties still insist on the usage of the indelible ink then something should be done about it.
“If a controversy is sparked from parties and stakeholders then I think we need to find money and get the ink because democracy is expensive.
But I also think we need a change of attitude and mindset. If we were all to be honest, this shouldn’t be an issue at all because knowledge is far advance and measures are already in place to detect double voting”.

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana declared that indelible ink will no longer be required in the district-level election and subsequent polls.

Indelible ink, a semi-permanent dye traditionally applied to voters’ fingers to signify the exercise of their franchise and prevent instances of double voting.

EC Chair Jean Mensa announced the decision at a press conference ahead of the December 19 district-level election. She explained that the move is part of the Commission’s efforts to enhance the electoral process and establish a robust identification system.
