The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice(CHRAJ) still wants aspects of the anti-LGBTQ+ bill amended.
CHRAJ said criminalizing commentary on LGBTQ+ matters are unconstitutional and an abuse of human right.
The deliberation of the controversial anti-LGBTQ bill in the Consideration stage will continue today December 12, 2023, in Parliament.
This follows the commencement on Friday, December 8.
During the consideration stage, the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values bill is expected to be subjected to a clause-by-clause discussion and may undergo amendments where necessary.
Progress on the bill had stalled for months, evoking the angst of its proponents who had accused some Members of Parliament of colluding with pro-LGBT campaigners to delay its passage.
The Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, Joseph Withal said though parliament has begun amending the bill, the most important part should not be left out.
He spoke at the commemoration of International Human Rights Day 2023 organized by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice under the theme, “The 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: Implications for Human Rights Protection in Ghana,” held on December 11, 2023.
