Ghanaians to breast themselves with tougher times ahead with the approval of 2024 financial budget in parliament, which was heavily opposed by the minority in parliament, which he believes is pregnant with a new revenue handle and likely going to worsen the plight of Ghanaians.
These taxes, combined with very high interest rates, will further whittle away the capital of Ghanaian businesses and hinder their competitiveness.
The Member of Parliament for Tain Hon. Adama Sulemana said this on Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show on Ahotor FM and hosted by Nana Dogbey in Accra.
He said the minority stand with Ghanaians in these difficult times, though the hardship was created as a result of mismanagement of the economy by President Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia administration, he opined that he expects the government to redirect the attention of the economy to production than imposing more taxes been imposed on Ghanaians.
He further stated that, what is critical is the approval of the estimates and mind you every component of the estimate is going to be voted upon, that’s where the work is. He said.
The lawmaker’s comment comes in the wake of Parliament’s approval of the 2024 Budget and Economic Policy Statement. This approval followed a headcount conducted by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, in response to resistance from the Minority side.
Hon. Adama Sulemana said the hard ship threatening the lives of Ghanaians is the three months automatic adjustment of increase in utilities tariffs is likely going to worsen the plight of Ghanaians more.
