The Founder and President of Imani Africa, Franklin Cudjoe has taken swipe on the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Jean Mensah over her recent “we are witnessing predetermined, well orchestrated strategies to unleash violence in election” statement.
According Mr Cudjoe, the Electoral Commission can ensure that, there is no violence during elections by helping resolve issues surrounding past election violence.
The 2020 general election saw eight (8) Ghanaian citizens lost their lives in election violence but no investigation whatsoever has been done about it despite calls from Ghanaians.
“Good. The EC should start by asking questions on the state of things regarding the killing and maiming of innocent voters in 2020.
They should also be thorough on campaign financing, which attracts suspicious/illicit financing, which fuels violence”, he posted on X.
The EC Chairperson lamented about the glaring threats of violence on the lives of ordinary Ghanaians during elections in the country.
She indicated that, it is intentionally initiated by power-thirsty individuals who will go any length to have authority.
She made this known in a meeting with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr Akufo Dampare and Chief of Defense staff in Accra.
“Presently one of the major challenged we face is that whereas the violence experienced in election s in the early 2000s and the early 90s were birthed out of genuine causes and disagreement, what we witness today is a predetermined well-orchestrated strategy to unleash violence before, during, and after the elections for the sole purpose of undermining the credibility and integrity of elections and denting image of institutions such as the EC, Police and other security agencies”.
