The Builsa south MP, and Deputy Ranking Membe r on Parliaments committee, Dr. Clement Apaak has expressed disappointment in Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu for his comments on Mahama’s 24- hour economy proposal.
He said it’s a deliberate policy intervention by the next National Democratic Congress/John Dramani Mahama government to encourage and support certain businesses and companies to operate 24/7, preferably in a three-shift system of 8 hours each, by creating an enabling environment that promotes productivity, competitiveness and well-paying jobs.
He said this on Simpieso political talk show on Ahotor 92.3 FM hosted by Emmanuel Amartey (Alaska De Don) in Accra.
Yakubu is of the opinion that the policy would interfere with the conjugal duties of some Ghanaians. This he believes the policy cannot work considering our way we work in the past.
However Hon. Apaak has questioned the connection between a 24- hour economy and conjugal rights, accusing the New Patriotic Party who lacks the in-depth knowledge about the policy and lack substantial offerings of alternative for job creation for Ghanaians.
He reiterated that, what has happened to those who were already engaging with 24-hour Economy in some sectors and industries, were they sleeping with their wives. This he asked
He added that, indeed Dr. Bawumia and the NPP have nothing to offer Ghanaians and that what new policy Dr. Bawumia bringing on to turn the mess economy he and the president have taken the economy to.
He further said, who doesn’t know Dr. Bawumia; is just an extension of Nana Addo. John Mahama only said he will create a enabling environment, which means he will create security, tax incentives and many more for the people who are interested to take chance and opportunity to grow the economy.
This he said has to do with, agro processing; manufacturing be structured as a policy that will roll out and take the shift system which will add to productivity and more jobs opportunity.
