Ghana’s gospel music fraternity has been thrown into a deep moment of reflection after Bishop J.Y. Adu, founder of New Jerusalem Chapel, revealed that veteran gospel legend Yaw Sarpong is still unaware of the passing of his close collaborator and singer, Tiwaa.
Speaking in a recent interview, Bishop Adu explained that the team is struggling with how to break the heartbreaking news to the celebrated musician, who has been recovering from health challenges in recent months. According to him, they fear the emotional impact the news may have on Sarpong, considering the strong spiritual and musical bond he shared with Tiwaa.
Tiwaa, known for her powerful voice and her role in the Yaw Sarpong & Asomafo group, played a pivotal part in shaping the sound of Ghanaian gospel music for decades. Her ministry touched countless lives, making her loss a painful moment for fans and industry colleagues.
Bishop Adu said the family and the church are taking their time to find the right moment and the right support system before informing Yaw Sarpong. “We need wisdom and guidance. It is not easy,” he added.
