Peasant Farmers dissatisfied with government’s role under PFJ phase two

The Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana has expressed dissatisfaction with government’s role under the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) program phase two.

The Farmers say, government’s role as defined in the 2024 budget is not clearly spelt out to give more hope to farmers to increase yield under the project.

The Executive Director of the association, Dr Charles Nyaba said, the lack of financial commitment to the PFJ phase two in the 2024 budget makes the policy vague.

“If you look at it, there is no specific allocation for PFJ phase 2. Government is going to facilitate credit for aggregators to be able to procure seeds, fertilizers for farmers…
A lot of engagements has gone into that but we are yet to see the actual implementation and how government investment is going into that”.

“If you look at the whole arrangement, it means that government is only going to play a facilitation role and that is something we are concerned about”, he added.
